Bethesda Fountain
The angel wears an ankle-length dress with the left foot forward. The lily in the left hand stands for the purity of the water. The four figures on the lower bowl of the fountain symbolize peace, health, purity and moderation. Both the terrace and the fountain are said to be holy and healing places. The monument is reminiscent of the finishing for the local water conduit and the increase in quality of life of the New Yorkers that were formerly plagued by sicknesses.
